“No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." (Matthew 6: 24)
God demands a full and whole-hearted service. This idea is in all the pages of scripture. Partial and divided heart in the service of God is rebuked. It is amazing how many people believe that they can serve God and money at the same time. Their policy is to get the best of both worlds. At the root of this behavior is lack of faith.
Elijah asked the Israelites: “How long will you straddle the issue? If the LORD is God, follow him; if Baal, follow him.” This is the heart of the matter. Who do we serve? The Lord or Baal? Jesus said that it is impossible to serve God and mammon.
