The Sower, the Seed & the Harvest

The Sower, the Seed and the Harvest

“Listen!  Imagine a sower going out to sow ……  as he sowed …..some seeds fell into rich soil and, growing tall and strong, produced crop; and yielded 30, 60, even a 100 fold.”  (Mark 4: 1 – 9)

The seed is the word of God.  When it falls into a rich soil, it produces rich harvest.  What is a rich soil?  A rich soil is a soul that has been prepared and conditioned to receive the word of God.  Who has the responsibility for preparing and conditioning this “soil”?  Each person prepares himself using all the means provided by a God who knows no favorites.

The means for preparing the soul to receive the word of God are prayer, the sacraments, study and a desire for God.  When the soul is prepared, it becomes like a watered garden.  It becomes expectant and receptive.  So when it hears the word of God (Rhema), it is ready for it.  It recognizes its opportunity when it comes because it has been expecting it.  When the word of God is received with faith, it germinates, grows and yields rich harvest.
