"For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him [on] the last day.” (John 6: 40)
What does it mean to "see" the Son? It means to:
- See His word
- See His works/signs
- See His Church
- See His Sacraments
In John 6: 40, seeing and believing are one and the same. To see the word of God, the ongoing works and signs of Jesus, the Church as a manifestation of His presence in the world, the effective presence of Jesus in the Sacraments of the Church is to believe in these realities.
Jesus asks Bartimaeus, "What do you want me to do for you?" "Lord, that I may see!"
Lord, open our eyes that we may see you in your word, in your works and signs in the world today. Help us to see you in your Church and in the seven Sacraments of your Church. Amen!
