Be filled with the Holy Spirit

"So Ananias went and entered the house; laying his hands on him, he said, “Saul, my brother, the Lord has sent me, Jesus who appeared to you on the way by which you came, that you may regain your sight and be filled with the holy Spirit.”  (Acts 9: 17)

Lord Jesus, lay your hands on me that I may regain my spiritual sight.  I want to see my circumstances as you see them.  I want to see my family, my health, my finances, job, tools, food and future as you see them.

Fill me with your Holy Spirit.  I want to be free to serve you as you deserve to be served.

I am the living Bread

"I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”  (John 6: 51)

No ambiguity here.  No symbolism.  No metaphor.  As it was stated and written, so did the Church of the Apostles understood John 6: 51.  So has this statement been understood ever since.  So shall it be understood by the Church of Jesus Christ forever.

Lord Jesus, thank you for your Holy Spirit for preserving this truth for your Church in the past, now and forever.

The true Bread

John 6:35
35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

Isaiah 55:1-2
The Compassion of the Lord

55:1 “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters;and he who has no money, come, buy and eat!Come, buy wine and milkwithout money and without price.2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.

Matthew 4:4
4 But he answered, “It is written,“‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

God's powerful providence fulfills all our needs in a timely manner.

There is something greater than bread to live for : JESUS- Our Bread of life,  the Word of God.

John 6:27
27 Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”

Everyone who sees the Son

"For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him [on] the last day.”  (John 6: 40)

What does it mean to "see" the Son?  It means to:

  • See His word
  • See His works/signs
  • See His Church
  • See His Sacraments

In John 6: 40, seeing and believing are one and the same.  To see the word of God, the ongoing works and signs of Jesus, the Church as a manifestation of His presence in the world, the effective presence of Jesus in the Sacraments of the Church is to believe in these realities.

Jesus asks Bartimaeus, "What do you want me to do for you?"  "Lord, that I may see!"
Lord, open our eyes that we may see you in your word, in your works and signs in the world today.  Help us to see you in your Church and in the seven Sacraments of your Church.  Amen!

Bread of life

"Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst."  (John 6: 35)

Jesus gave us the Bread of life.  What in the world can He refuse us?  Nothing!!

We must obey God rather than men

"But Peter and the apostles said in reply, “We must obey God rather than men."  (Acts 5: 29)

A principle is laid down here very clearly.  When there is a conflict between divine and human jurisprudence, God's law takes precedence.  Those who are saved recognize this principle through the light of the indwelling Spirit and obey it come what may.

Lord, may we have always the light to see the truth and the fortitude to obey it.
