St Marianne Cope, Religious and Foundress.
"The mother of Jesus and his brothers arrived at the house. Standing outside, they sent word to Jesus and called him.
"A crowd seated around him told him, “Your mother and your brothers and your sisters are outside asking for you.”
"But he said to them in reply, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”
"And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.” (Mark 3: 31 - 35).
Tuesday January 23rd is the feast of St Marianne Cope, of German descent.
Her family settled in New York. Marianne founded the first public hospital in Syracuse, St Joseph Hospital. Years later, she traveled to Hawaii and worked in the Leper Colony where she brought sunshine to the lepers till her death in 1918.
What is the central message in the Gospel of today? Knowing and doing the WILL OF GOD is far more important than anything else.
In the first Reading, 2 Samuel 6: 12 - 19, David is God's darling boy because he tries to know and do the will of God.
But the holy Virgin Mary is ultimately the bright Morning Star when it comes to knowing and doing the Will of God. This is why she has many feast days in the liturgical calendar of the Church. This is so that we may take note and imitate her in seeking and doing the Will of God.
“Faith in Jesus and in the power of His Holy Name is the greatest spiritual force in the world today.... " (Blessed Henry Suso - 1290 to 1365).
