THE EUCHARIST AND THE HOLY SPIRIT.
IT IS THE SPIRIT THAT GIVES LIFE.
"Many of the disciples of Jesus who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?”
"Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, “Does this shock you? What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?
"It is the Spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe.”
"Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.”
"As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer walked with him.
"Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?”
"Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6: 60 - 69).
Sunday August 25th in the 21st Week in Ordinary Time.
Jesus continues the Bread of life Discourse. This is perhaps the most difficult teaching for the Disciples so far. Peter spoke up for the Twelve:
"We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.” Translated, Peter said: "Lord, we believe that You are the Messiah. All things are possible for You."
Jesus said another important thing on this occasion:
"IT IS THE SPIRIT THAT GIVES LIFE."
Our flesh has nothing to offer. What a revelation we have in the Gospel of today.
The Liturgy calls the Holy Spirit "The Lord and Giver of life."
At the Epiclesis, that is, the moment the Priest spreads His hands over the Chalice and the Ciborium, and calls down the Holy Spirit to transform the bread and the wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. The Transubstantiation happens at that moment by the power of the Holy Spirit.
So the Spirit is the Lord and Giver of eternal life. The Eucharist is the source of eternal life.
The Holy Spirit is also the Source of abundant life.
"I have come that you may have life and have it abundantly." (John 10: 10).
There is a dynamic connection between the Holy Spirit and the Eucharist. If you want to grow in the Holy Spirit, receive the Eucharist often. As you grow in abundant life, you grow in the knowledge and love of the Eucharistic presence of Jesus Christ.
August is the Month dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Mary says: "In the end. My Immaculate Heart will triumph."
