MEMORIAL OF ST ELIZABETH OF HUNGARY, RELIGIOUS.
"As Jesus approached Jericho a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging, and hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what was happening.
They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
He shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!”
The people walking in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent, but he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me!”
Then Jesus stopped and ordered that he be brought to him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him,
“What do you want me to do for you?”
He replied, “Lord, please let me see.”
Jesus told him, “Have sight; your faith has saved you.”
He immediately received his sight and followed him, giving glory to God.
When they saw this, all the people gave praise to God." (Luke 18: 35 - 43).
Monday 17th November 2025, 33rd Week in Ordinary Time is the feast of St Elizabeth of Hungary. (1207 - 1231).
Elizabeth became a Religious after the death of her husband.
Born Hungarian Princess, she married a German Prince.
In her short life of only 23 years, Elizabeth had four children and then became a Franciscan Tertiary after the death of her husband.
She spent the rest of her life bringing comfort to the poor, the sick and the aged.
The Church honors her with a Memorial.
St Elizabeth pray for us.
St Mark the Evangelist identified the Blind Man in St Luke's story as Bartimaeus.
What a truly beautiful story. Won't you like to have the faith and courage of Bartimaeus? His tenacity, singleness of purpose in pursuing his goal?
The cry of Bartimaeus:
“Jesus, son of David, have pity on me.” is a most powerful prayer.
PRAYER IS THE ACTIVATOR OF POWER.
Providence honors Prayer.
Prayer honors Providence.
Pray always.
Pray everywhere.
Pray about everything.
Bartimaeus fired the bullet of Prayer. It struck the Heart of Jesus.
Our pains and trials could be the setting for the powerful and merciful intervention of the Providence of God to elevate our faith and bring us the kind of healing we need and the accomplishment of God's Plan in our lives.
"Jesus told him, “Have sight; your faith has saved you.” He immediately received his sight and followed him, giving glory to God." (Cf Mark 10: 46 - 52).
Jesus chose and called Bartimaeus to be a disciple.
Jesus’ meeting and healing of Bartimaeus today was not an accident.
There are no accidents in life.
Everything is Divine Providence.
The encounter of the Blind Bartimaeus with Jesus on that day was pure divine appointment.
Divine Providence means divine plan, divine design, divine purpose, divine foreknowledge.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that "Divine Providence is concrete and immediate." (Cf CCC 303).
Bartimaeus fired the bullet of Prayer. It hit the Heart of Jesus.
Jesus honors the Prayer with instant healing.
Jesus was delighted with the faith of Bartimaeus.
Jesus saw the faith of Bartimaeus in action.
"Jesus told him, “Have sight; your faith has saved you.”
He immediately received his sight and followed him, giving glory to God." (Cf Mark 10: 46 - 52).
November is the Month we pray for the Souls in PURGATORY.
Venerable Fulton Sheen:
“As we enter Heaven, we will see them, so many of them, coming towards us and thanking us. We will ask who they are, and they will say, ‘a poor soul you prayed for in Purgatory.”
