Celebrate the Word of God Sunday.
"The statutes of the Lord are true,
all of them just;
More desirable than gold, than a hoard of purest gold,
Sweeter also than honey or drippings from the comb.
By them your servant is warned;
obeying them brings much reward." (Psalm 19: 10 - 12).
Sunday 22nd January 2023 of the 3rd Week in Ordinary Time is the Word of God Sunday.
Below is the way Pope Francis suggests we observe the Word of God Sunday:
*1. Enthrone the sacred text.*
*2. Highlight the proclamation of the Word of the Lord.*
*3. Emphasise the honour due to the word of God in the homily* .
*4. Celebrate the Rite of Installation of Lectors or a commissioning of Readers.*
*5. Provide training for Readers.*
*6. Give a Bible, or one of its books, to everyone.*
*7. Encourage people to read and pray with Scripture daily,* *especially through the practice of Lectio Divina.
I rejoiced when Pope Francis established the Word of God Sunday in 2019 to be celebrated on the 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. I love Sacred Scripture and Sacred Scripture has loved me back. It has given me joy, peace, hope and wisdom. On the 18th of January 2023, I clocked 6000 reflections on Daily Mass Scripture. Thank You Holy Spirit.
I celebrate the Word of God Sunday with the Responsorial Psalm 27 in today's Liturgy. Why? Because of the incredible promises in this Psalm 27. As mentioned above, Scripture has been good to me and on my part, I am greedy for all God's promises in Sacred Scriptures.
The Responsorial Psalm 27:
"The Lord is my light and my salvation;whom should I fear?
The Lord is my life’s refuge;
of whom should I be afraid?
"One thing I ask of the Lord;
this I seek: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, that I may gaze on the loveliness of the Lord and contemplate his temple.
"I believe that I shall see the bounty of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord with courage;
be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord."
If you can wait for the Lord for the fullness of time, you will enjoy every one of the promises the Lord inspired you to appropriate and pray for.
Happy Word of God Sunday to all our readers.

WAIT FOR THE LORD WITH COURAGE!
WAIT FOR THE LORD WITH COURAGE!
Our word for today: Psalm 27
"I long to see your face, O Lord.
"Hear, O Lord, the sound of my call; have pity on me, and answer me.
"Of you my heart speaks; you my glance seeks.
"Your presence, O Lord, I seek.
"Hide not your face from me; do not in anger repel your servant.
"You are my helper: cast me not off.
"I believe that I shall see the bounty of the Lord in the land of the living.
"Wait for the Lord with courage; be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord." (Psalm 27).
Friday June 14th 2024 in the 10th Week in Ordinary Time.
Where and how do we get the courage and discipline to wait for the Lord if your lot is a long recovery from an illness, waiting for life partner when your biological time is not slowing down? Think of a number of scenarios where you can do nothing but wait.
My healing word for today comes from Psalm 27:
"Wait for the Lord with courage; be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord."
Some people may dismiss the idea of waiting for the Lord's time as folly. But being cynical will not save anyone from one of those moments in life that come to everyone. Listen to this ancient wisdom:
"Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change. Grant me the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."
Repeating this prayer again and again during one of those tough moments of life has brought me wisdom and peace.
Jesus says IN SINU JESU:
“TRUST ME WITH THE TIMING OF ALL THINGS.”
When you are in one of those cross roads of life the Sacred Heart of Jesus is waiting longingly for you.
The Holy Catholic Church honors the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus every June.
Read of the abundant promises made to people who honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus especially in June.

The One Thing I Pray For
"One thing I ask of the LORD;
this I seek:
To dwell in the LORD’s house
all the days of my life,
To gaze on the LORD’s beauty,
to visit his temple." (Psalm 27: 4)
The one thing that is necessary:
"But seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness,* and all these things will be given you besides." (Matthew 6: 33)
How to get that one thing:
"Wait for the LORD, take courage;
be stouthearted, wait for the LORD!" (Psalm 27: 14)
The certainty of prayer:
"I believe I shall see the LORD’s goodness
in the land of the living." (Psalm 27: 13)

I waited patiently for the Lord
“I waited patiently for the Lord, he inclined to me and heard my cry.” (Psalm 40:1)
David waited patiently for the Lord to answer his prayer, after what seemed like an interminable delay, the Lord answered his prayer. Why did it take the Lord so long to respond? Is the Lord hard of hearing? Is the Lord simply insensitive to the cries of David?
The Lord makes the ear, therefore He hears everything. The Lord hears the cry of the poor and delivers him from all his distress. There is a deeper reason why David waited and waited for the Lord.
“I wait for the LORD, my soul waits and I hope for his word. My soul looks for the Lord more than sentinels for daybreak. More than sentinels for daybreak," (Psalm 130: 5 - 6)
How long can we wait for the Lord to answer our prayer? The scriptures below say that we wait until the Lord answers.
a. Wait for the Lord (Psalm 27: 14; 37:34)
b. Wait patiently for him (Psalm 37: 7)
c. I wait for you (Psalm 25: 21)
d. For you I wait all day (Psalm 25: 5);
e. I wait for the Lord more than a watchman wait for the morning (Psalm 130: 5-6);
f. I wait for God my savior (Micah 7:7)
g. I wait patiently for the Lord (Psalm 40: 1)
h. I wait in silence for God (Psalm 62: 1, 5)
i. We wait for you (Isaiah 26: 8, 33: 2)
j. Those who wait for the Lord renew their strength (Isaiah 40: 31)
k. Those who wait for the Lord will inherit the land (Psalm 37: 9)
l. Blessed are those who wait for him (Isaiah 30: 18)
m. May those who wait for you not be ashamed through me (Psalm 69:6)
n. This is our God for whom we have waited (Isaiah 25:9)
o. The Lord is good to those who wait for him (Lamentation 3: 25)
p. Be like men waiting for their Master (Luke 12: 36)
q. Saul was told to wait 7 days for Samuel (1 Samuel 10: 8; 13:8)
r. David will wait until word came (2 Samuel 15; 28)

Be Courageous
"I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."(Joshua 1:9)
Using a specific scripture at a critical moment brings power to the mind. God is present wherever His word is acknowledged with faith. To allow this power to flow to us at the moment of need, we feed our minds with God's word in periods when we are not pressed by tests. When we sow the word of God, we reap a harvest of courage and power during emergencies. Below are some scriptures that can be used as affirmations.
Some scriptures on courage:
WHEN YOU NEED TO BE BOLD AND DECISIVE:
Be strong and brave (2Sam 2:7)
Be strong and courageous: (Deut31:6, 7, 23; Joshua 1:6, 9, 18; 10:25; 2Sam 10:12; 13:28; 1Chronicle 22:13; 2Chronicle 32:7)
Be of good courage and act (Ezra 10:4)
Be strong and take courage (Psalm 31:24)
Those who trust in the Lord will fear no bad news (Psalm 112:7)
The righteous are bold as a lion (Proverb 28:1)
They spoke the word of God boldly (Acts 4:31)
God gives encouragement (Romans 15:5)
We do not lose heart (2Corinthians 4:1, 16)
Let us not lose heart (Galatians 6:9)
The bretheren have been encouraged to speak the word (Philippians 1:14)
WHY BE AFRAID IF THE LORD IS WITH YOU?
I will not be afraid of tens of thousands Psalm 3:6)
You will not be afraid (Psalm 3:24)
I will fear no evil (Psalm 23:4)
The Lord is my light, whom shall I fear? (Psalm 27:1)
He delivered me from all my fears (Psalm 34:4)
We will not fear though the earth change (Psalm 46:2)
You will not fear the terror by night (Psalm 91:5) You will not be afraid of arrow or pestilence (Psalm 91:5-6)
I will trust and not be afraid (Isaiah 12:2)
We have not received a spirit of bondage to fear (Romans 8:15)
God has not given us a spirit of timidity (2Tim 1:7)
I will not be afraid (Psalm 56:4, 11; Hebrews 13:6)

"Thus says the LORD: In a time of favor I answer you, on the day of salvation I help you; I form you and set you as a covenant for the people, To restore the land and allot the devastated heritages " (Isaiah 49:8)
Wait for God’s time of favor. Waiting is critical to possessing the promise.

Daily Bible Verse 101

The swallow lays her young by your altar
"As the sparrow finds a home
and the swallow a nest to settle her young,
My home is by your altars,
LORD of hosts, my king and my God!
Blessed are those who dwell in your house!
They never cease to praise you." (Psalm 84: 4 - 5)
Pope Gregory the Great (690 - 604) taught: "Learn the heart of God from the word of God."
What can I learn today about the heart of God from Psalm 84: 4 - 5?
I learn that God is so tender towards His creatures that He allows the common sparrows and swallows to settle very close to His altars.
And how about me?
My home is by our altars, O Lord my God.
The Lord Himself marks out the pleasant spots for me near His altars.
"LORD, my allotted portion and my cup,
you have made my destiny secure.
Pleasant places were measured out for me;
fair to me indeed is my inheritance." (Psalm 16: 5 - 6)
The Sanctuary is still and restful waters.
"The LORD is my shepherd;
there is nothing I lack.a
In green pastures he makes me lie down;
to still waters he leads me;
he restores my soul.
He guides me along right paths
for the sake of his name." (Psalm 23: 1 - 3)
Where to seek the Lord? In the Sanctuary.
"O God, you are my God—
it is you I seek!
For you my body yearns;
for you my soul thirsts,
In a land parched, lifeless,
and without water.
I look to you in the sanctuary
to see your power and glory.
For your love is better than life;
my lips shall ever praise you!" Psalm 63: 2 - 4)
The Choice, the Call and the Sanctuary
"Blessed the one whom you will choose and bring
to dwell in your courts.
May we be filled with the good things of your house,
your holy temple!" (Psalm 65: 5)
Where to finish my days? Near your Sanctuary, O Lord my God.
"One thing I ask of the LORD;
this I seek:
To dwell in the LORD’s house
all the days of my life,
To gaze on the LORD’s beauty,
to visit his temple." (Psalm 27: 4)

My soul waits in silence
"My soul rests in God alone,
from whom comes my salvation.
God alone is my rock and salvation,
my fortress; I shall never fall." (Psalm 62: 2 - 3)
My soul waits in God alone. I will wait for you O God till you answer. Make haste my God to help me. I trust in your mercy.
"“Come,” says my heart, “seek his face”;
your face, LORD, do I seek!" (Psalm 27: 8)
"Wait for the LORD, take courage;
be stouthearted, wait for the LORD!" (Psalm 27: 14)
"Surely, I wait for the LORD;
who bends down to me and hears my cry,
Draws me up from the pit of destruction,
out of the muddy clay,
Sets my feet upon rock,
steadies my steps,
And puts a new song in my mouth,
a hymn to our God.
Many shall look on in fear
and they shall trust in the LORD." (Psalm 40: 2 - 4)

The Promises of God and the Joy of Answered Prayer.
"How sweet to my tongue is your promise, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" (Psalm 119: 103).
Many years ago, after I moved to a new parish, I found myself one Saturday morning in a Bible Study group. The pastor was the teacher. "What is the most important concept in Sacred Scripture?" He asked. Many answers were proffered. When it came to my turn, I said: "Promises." For better or worse, Promise has been my key to understanding and applying the Sacred Text to my life. As years go by, God's promises become sweeter and sweeter to me. Often in my prayers, I play a little chess game with God. I raise my hands up and say: "What I am asking for is what You promised. What I am waiting for is what You promised." Then I make a sweet surrender of the request as to how and when of it to God.
I believe firmly that:
"The law of your mouth is more precious to me than heaps of silver and gold." (Psalm 119: 72).
All the heroes of the Bible fed exclusively on the word of God.
Here are a few Scriptures that have sustained my life in mortal spiritual warfare:
"God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable],
A very present and well-proved help in trouble." (Psalm 46: 1 AMP).
"Never forget your promises to me your servant, for they are my only hope. They give me strength in all my troubles; how they refresh and revive me!" (Psalm 119: 49 - 50 TLB).
“If this plan or this undertaking is of human origin, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them – in that case you may even be found fighting against God!” (Acts 5: 38 - 39).
Are you discerning the viability of a project? This may be your Scripture.
"Wait for the Lord, take courage; be stouthearted, wait for the Lord!" (Psalm 27: 14).
The summary of what Sacred Scripture does for me in times of spiritual desolation and warfare is below:
1. If God is with you, it is accomplished. No matter the obstacles, delays,
disappointments or personal weaknesses.
2. No fear. No worry. No doubt as long as the Lord is with you.
3. God will finish what He started. (Exodus 14: 13-14; Isaiah 13: 15; 2 Chronicles 20: 15; Philippians 1: 6)
4. "The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need." (Psalm 23:1).
5. "I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me." (Philippians 4: 13).

Daily Bible Verse 101
Thursday, June 11, 2020
Wait for the Lord. Again wait for the Lord.
"I believe that I shall see the bounty of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord with courage;
be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord." (Psalm 27: 13 - 14).
Friday 12th June 2020, 10th Week in Ordinary Time.
Are you waiting for any favors from the Lord? Any promises to be fulfilled by God? If you are not, why not? Are you self satisfied and feel you have everything you need from life? "Man's extremity is God's opportunity. Man's prosperity is Satan's opportunity," says an adage.
Our Scripture verse from the Responsorial Psalm 27 urge us to develop a habit of waiting for the Lord because it is in waiting for the Lord that we come to learn that the Lord is faithful. The Psalmist exclaimed in wonderment at God's faithfulness: "Your faithful promises are my armor and protection." (Psalm 91: 4).
I have found that life is made up of a series of waiting: waiting for small things and waiting for the big items. We are all waiting all the time. This is life. No one is excused from waiting. Another word to wait is hope. We wait for the Second Coming of Jesus. We rejoice in Hope for this.
Let your waiting be strengthened by the unfailing promise of God:
"I believe that I shall see the bounty of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord with courage;
be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord."

Daily Bible Verse 101
Monday, November 11, 2024
THE MEMORIAL OF ST JOSAPHAT, BISHOP AND MARTYR.
ST JOSAPHAT, BISHOP AND MARTYR.
"The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.
Tuesday 12th November 2024 in the 32nd Week in Ordinary Time.
"Trust in the Lord and do good,
that you may dwell in the land and be fed in security.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will grant you your heart’s requests.
"The Lord watches over the lives of the wholehearted;
their inheritance lasts forever.
"By the Lord are the steps of a man made firm, and he approves his way.
"Turn from evil and do good,
that you may abide forever;
"The just shall possess the land and dwell in it forever." (Psalm 37: 3-4, 18 and 23, 27 and 29).
Tuesday 12th November 2024 in 32nd Week in Ordinary Time is the Memorial of St Josaphat, Bishop and Martyr. (1580 - 1623).
Born in Poland to Orthodox parents, Josaphat became a Catholic. As Bishop, he worked for the unity of the Orthodox and the Roman Church and was martyred for his efforts in Ukraine.
Our saint of today, St Josaphat had the opportunity to preserve his life by hiding from his killers. He chose to die as Jesus did when He refused to come down from the Cross when His enemies taunted Him to do so and prove that He is the Son of God.
Our key Scripture for today is from the Responsorial Psalm 37. This Psalm along with Psalms 23, 27, 46 and 51 are my all-time favorites.
Why is Psalm 37 one of my all-time favorite? Because every single word in it is sweet music to my ears. It is like a quid pro quo. You do this, you get that. Do you want this outcome in life? Then do the following.
"Man does not live on bread alone. There is spiritual nourishment in every word that comes from the mouth of God." (Cf Matthew 4: 4).
Thank You Jesus for the spiritual nourishment You provide us daily in Your word.
Friends, read this Scripture and see how these words can apply to you:
"The Lord watches over the lives of the wholehearted; their inheritance lasts forever.
"By the Lord are the steps of a man made firm, and he approves his way."
"If you trust in the Lord and do good, you will dwell in the land and be fed in security.
"If you take delight in the Lord,
He will grant you your heart’s requests. (Cf Psalm 37).
Everyone of us can surely take delight in the Lord. Is He not our Father who provides all our needs and protects us from all evil?
"If you find your delight in the Lord, he will grant your heart’s desire." (Psalm 37: 4).
How do I find my delight in the Lord?
1. Immerse yourself in the word of God.
2. Pray every day. Frequent Confession and Communion.
3. Wait for the Lord with patience.
Scripture teaches us that the love of God compels us. (Cf 2 Corinthians 5: 14). Because God loves us so much, we cannot help but loving Him back if we know of His unbelievable love for us.
Many people do not love God back because they are not aware of God’s immense love for them.
One way you can know of God’s immense love for you is through daily prayers and daily reading of Holy Scriptures.
Lord Jesus, I believe. I trust. Increase my faith.
"The attack on My priesthood that appears to be spreading and growing is, in fact, in its final stages. It is a satanic and diabolical onslaught against My Bride the Church, an attempt to destroy her by attacking the most wounded of her ministers in their carnal weaknesses; but I will undo the destruction they have wrought and I will cause My priests and My Spouse the Church to recover a glorious holiness that will confound My enemies and be the beginning of a new era of saints, of martyrs, and of prophets." (IN SINU JESU, Tuesday, March 2, 2010).
November is the Month we pray for the Souls in PURGATORY.
“One of the holiest works,one of the best exercises of piety, which we can practice in this world, is to offer sacrifices, alms and prayer for the dead.” (St John Chrysostom, Doctor of the Church).

Daily Bible Verse 101
Saturday, January 21, 2017
I shall experience the goodness of the LORD all the days of my life.
"One thing I ask of the Lord; this I seek:
To dwell in the Lord’s house all the days of my life,
To gaze on the Lord’s beauty,
to visit his temple." (Psalm 27: 4 NABRE)
This is the prayer and desire of David. Can you make it yours? How much do you love the house of the Lord?
"I believe I shall see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord, take courage;
be stouthearted, wait for the Lord!" (Psalm 27: 13 - 14 NABRE)
Do you pray and long to experience all the goodness the Lord plans for you here and now? Then wait for it for the Lord is a faithful God. (2 Thessalonians 3: 3)
