THE CALL AND THE COMMISSION OF THE APOSTLES.

THE CALL AND THE COMMISSION OF THE APOSTLES.

When he saw the crowds,

he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

 Then he said to his disciples,

"The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;

pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."

And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out,

 and to heal every disease and every infirmity.

The names of the twelve apostles are these:

first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother;

James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector;

James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;  Simon the Cananaean,

and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

 These twelve Jesus sent out, charging them,

  "Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans,

 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

And preach as you go, saying,

 `The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'

Heal the sick,

 raise the dead,

 cleanse lepers,

 cast out demons.

You received without paying, give without pay." (Matthew 9: 36 - 38, 10: 1 - 8).

Sunday 14th June in the 11th Week in Ordinary Time.

On the 11th Sunday of Ordinary Time, we reflect on the Call and Commission of the Twelve Chosen Men, whom we know from now as Apostles and together as The Twelve.

What are they commissioned to do?

Nothing that remotely resembles what world's government ministers will do.

They are to:

+ Heal the sick,

+ raise the dead,

+ cleanse lepers,

+ cast out demons.

They are also to celebrate the Eucharist and be the special ministers of Reconciliation.

The World today is in urgent need of the Holy Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Pope Leo XIV is very conscious of this need.

The Pope has embarked on Apostolic Journeys to remind nations of this urgent need.

May we support Pope Leo XIV with our prayers and financial support.

"The spirit of expiation or reparation has always held the first and foremost place in the devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. It satisfies the demands of Divine Justice and consoles the Savior."

 — Pope Pius XI, Miserentissimus Redemptor

Understand the rigorous theological demands of this devotion. True love does not merely praise; it seeks to repair the damage done to the beloved. The final cause (teleology) of your daily sacrifices is to satisfy divine justice and console the Person of Jesus for the outrages committed against Him. Every time you choose patience over irritation, every time you spend time in adoration instead of distraction, you are actively participating in the work of expiation.

 Let your life today be a continuous, quiet act of reparation, trusting that Divine Providence uses your hidden fidelity to tip the scales of mercy for the world.

 Prayer:

Most Holy Heart of Jesus, I offer You my life today as an unceasing act of loving expiation.

Read of the abundant promises made to people who honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus especially in June and in Jesus First Friday in the year.
