THE MEMORIAL OF ST THOMAS AQUINAS, OP. PRIEST & DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH.
"For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.”
THE GOODNEWS:
"The mother of Jesus and his brothers arrived at the house. Standing outside, they sent word to Jesus and called him.
"A crowd seated around him told him, “Your mother and your brothers and your sisters are outside asking for you.”
"But he said to them in reply, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”
"And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.” (Mark 3: 31 - 35).
Tuesday January 28th is the Memorial of St Thomas Aquinas, OP. Priest and Doctor of the Church.
Called the Angelic Doctor, St Thomas Aquinas, OP. (1225 - 1274) was an eminent Italian Dominican priest. Doctor of the Church. He wrote the Summa Theologica and other great books. Apart from being one of the greatest theologians in the Church, Thomas is noted for his humility and holiness.
Favorite quote of St Thomas Aquinas:
"The things that we love tell us what we are."
What is the central message in the Gospel of today? Knowing and doing the WILL OF GOD is far more important than anything else.
In 2 Samuel 6: 12 - 19, David is God's darling boy because he tries to know and do the will of God.
But the holy Virgin Mary is ultimately the bright Morning Star when it comes to knowing and doing the Will of God. This is why she has many feast days in the liturgical calendar of the Church. This is so that we may take note and imitate her in seeking and doing the Will of God.
The Church honors the Most Holy Name of Jesus in January.
“To pray "Jesus" is to invoke him and to call him within us. His name is the only one that contains the presence it signifies. Jesus is the Risen One, and whoever invokes the name of Jesus is welcoming the Son of God who loved him and who gave himself up for him." (Cf CCC).
