MEMORIAL OF ST CHARLES LWANGA AND COMPANION MARTYRS.

MEMORIAL OF ST CHARLES LWANGA & CO MARTYRS.

You are greatly mistaken.

THE GOODNEWS:
"Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus and put this question to him, saying,

“Teacher, Moses wrote for us, If someone’s brother dies, leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother.

"Now there were seven brothers.

The first married a woman and died, leaving no descendants.

So the second brother married her and died, leaving no descendants, and the third likewise.

And the seven left no descendants.

"Last of all the woman also died.

At the resurrection when they arise whose wife will she be? For all seven had been married to her.”

"Jesus said to them, “Are you not misled because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?

When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven.

"As for the dead being raised, have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God told him,
I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

"He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled.” (Mark 12: 18 - 27).

Wednesday 9th June 2026 in the 9th Week in Ordinary Time is the Memorial of St Charles Lwanga and Companion Martyrs.

(+1886 - 1887).

On the feast of Ascension 1886, the powerful but corrupt King Mwanga of Uganda mercilessly killed Charles Lwanga and 14 teenage companions who resisted resolutely his homosexual advances.

Eight of the companions were killed later.

The blood of martyrs is the seed of Christianity, wrote the African erudite theologian, Tertulian.

Martyrdom is the greatest testimony/witness to the faith. The Greek word martyr actually means witness. The testimony of the absolute love of Jesus for us is that He gave His life to prove it.

What is most impressive about the martyrs of Uganda is that all of them were teenagers and Catechumens. Technically, they were not yet Christians since they had not received Baptism. Yet they chose to die for the faith they had come to love.

Do you believe in the Resurrection of the dead? This is the subject of today's Gospel.

Our God is not "God of the dead but of the living."

We Catholics believe in the Communion of the Saints.

The saints are very alive.
The Blessed Virgin Mary has made many apparitions to many people in different countries. For example: Lourdes, Fatima, Guadalupe, etc.

St Joseph has also made apparitions.

Numerous saints have appeared to people. All these appearances have been carefully examined by the Holy Church. Some have been approved. Others rejected.

Even if we cannot see the saints or angels, we can touch them with our prayers. They touch us with their answers to our prayers. This is real.

Think of St Anthony of Padua, Patron Saint of lost items.

St Joseph, Patron Saint of a Happy Death.

God is a living God of a living people.

All things are possible for God. All things are easy for God.

I trust in the Lord with all my heart. I lean not on my own understanding, experience, knowledge, perception or ideas. In everything I do, I acknowledge God and He promises to direct my path.

SACRED HEART NOVENA 2026 STARTS TODAY JUNE 3 TO JUNE 11. SOLEMNITY OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS - FRIDAY JUNE 12.

June is the month of honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Church honors the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus every June.

"Our Lord Jesus Christ has made it known to me that the chief design of this devotion is to turn souls to His love, which is the ultimate purpose of their existence. He is a secure refuge against the divine justice."
St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (Apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Devotion).

Consider the immense sorrow of the Savior as He displays His wounded humanity.

The purpose of today’s meditation is to move your soul from being a mere bystander into becoming an active comforter of Christ.

Jesus desires your personal affection; He seeks your specific acts of love today to make amends for the coldness of the world.

Divine Providence has kept you alive for this precise hour: to stand in the breach, offering a heart of deep gratitude where others offer only rejection.

Your professional duties, your patience in traffic, your endurance of daily fatigue—when offered as reparation—take on an immense, supernatural weight that consoles the Heart of God.

Most loving Jesus, I offer my day to make reparation for the ingratitude shown to Your Sacred Heart in the Tabernacle.

FEAST OF ST MARCELLINUS AND PETER.

Feast of  St. Marcellinus, Priest and Peter, Exorcist.

ALL POWER COMES FROM GOD.

GIVE TO CAESAR WHAT BELONGS TO CAESAR.

"Some Pharisees and Herodians were sent to Jesus to ensnare him in his speech. They came and said to him, “Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you are not concerned with anyone’s opinion. You do not regard a person’s status but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.

"Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?”

"Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them, “Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at.”

"They brought one to him and he said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” They replied to him, “Caesar’s.”

"So Jesus said to them, “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” They were utterly amazed at him." (Mark 12: 13 - 17).

Tuesday 2nd June 2026 in the 9th Week in Ordinary Time is the feast of two early martyrs of the Church:

St. Marcellinus, Priest and Peter, Exorcist (+ 304).

In prison, they converted many of their fellow prisoners including the jailer.

Both were martyred under Emperor Diocletian.

"Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?” (Mark 12: 14).

After examining the coinage in use for transactions in Israel, the Pharisees and Herodians were caught in their own trap when Jesus asked them: "Whose image and inscription is this?”

They replied him, “Caesar’s.”

"Jesus said to them, ‘Give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar – and to God what belongs to God’.

This reply took them completely by surprise."

Caesar has a right to his taxes because he got his power from God.

Do not deny God what rightly belongs to God, viz:

Sunday worship, keeping His commandments, knowing, loving and serving Him and paying your tithes.

Jesus  "reply took them completely by surprise." (Mark 12: 13 - 17).

Some great lessons from today's Gospel:

1. Every authority on earth comes from God:

Parents, teachers, Pontus Pilate, Judges, Prime Ministers, Presidents, etc.

2. Our duty and obligation is to pray for these authorities especially the top guns like presidents and prime ministers because they have the authority over life and death, war and peace.

3. Be wise and do not mess with legitimate authority.

The Church honors the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus every June.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, instituted by Divine Providence for my ultimate salvation, reign sovereignly over my soul.

"The mystery of the divine redemption is a mystery of love; that is, of the true, perfect love of Christ for His heavenly Father and for the whole human race. The Sacred Heart is the legitimate symbol of this boundless charity."

— Pope Pius XII.

MEMORIAL OF ST JUSTIN MARTYR.

THE MEMORIAL OF ST JUSTIN MARTYR.

THEY KILLED HIS ONLY SON.

"And he began to speak to them in parables.

"A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a pit for the wine press, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country.

When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.

And they took him and beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.

Again he sent to them another servant, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully.

And he sent another, and him they killed; and so with many others, some they beat and some they killed.

He had still one other, a beloved son; finally he sent him to them, saying, They will respect my son.'

But those tenants said to one another,This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'

And they took him and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants, and give the vineyard to others.

 Have you not read this scripture: `The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner;

this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?"

And they tried to arrest him, but feared the multitude, for they perceived that he had told the parable against them; so they left him and went away. (Mark 12: 1 - 12).

Monday 1st June 2026, in the 9th Week in Ordinary Time is the feast of St Justin Martyr (+ 165).

Born in Samaria in Palestine. An eminent philosopher and the first apologist in the Church.

He defended the Christian faith in his writings in Rome where he established a school of public debate.

St Justin was beheaded under Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

Justin is the patron saint of apologists, philosophers, teachers and speakers.

Mark 12: 1 - 12 is one of the saddest Parables in the Gospels in my view.

The ungrateful and grasping tenants (proletariat greed) had  thoroughly abused other messengers before the landlord sent his own Son.

They surely would respect him, he believed. But they killed him and desecrated his body thereby adding insult to injury.

What is the point of the whole story?

The incredible and longsuffering nature of God.

No human king or landlord could tolerate a fraction of what these malevolent tenants did.

While we are thankful for God's patience with our sins, it will be a mistake to think that this time of grace and mercy will last forever.

The Church honors the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus every June.

"Jesus Christ desires nothing so much as to see His love recognized and returned.

It is by His Heart that He loves us; it is by His Heart that He wishes to be loved in return.

Nothing is more perfectly ordered by Divine Providence than this reciprocal movement of love."— Fr. Jean Croiset, S.J.
